Dear, wonderful Open Heart Project,

When the benefits of meditation are discussed, the word “science” comes up a lot. Yay! Love science! Thank you science for proving how awesome meditation is! Your data rules!

However, this ancient practice is so much more than a life hack for less stress and more happiness (both of which are fantastic). It is actually a way to break down barriers between human beings. It is a way to meet others in their suffering. It is a path to love.

Meditation breaks down the mechanics of love by emphasizing the barrier-busting power of attention. “Attention is the most basic form of love,” said the Zen priest and poet John Tarrant Roshi. “Through it, we bless and are blessed.” Of course, in our practice, this–attention–is exactly what we are working with. In this way, you could say, we are training our hearts to love.

Please have a listen to this short talk for more on how our practice opens the gates to love, ready or not.  💛

Thoughts? I love to hear from you!

With love, Susan

This is a simple teaching but it is most helpful. The simplest teachings are always the best.

The best way to avoid the flu is to get a flu shot. If you already had one, I’m sure it made your flu not as bad.

    Dear Susan,
I appreciate your relating attention (on breath) to how we can most directly help others (& ourselves) through love and attention. Powerful!

Hi Susan, the flu is well known to make you feel despairing and depressed. Maybe that is the worst aspect of it. Hope you feel better soon!

Wow! Thank you Susan for this insightful teaching. Weirdly it has come to me at the exact right time in my life. I was looking for a way to be with my future coaching clients in a more present, open, and empty way. Not to do anything for them necessarily, but to just listen and be with them and the issues they are going through. So they really feel heard and I really hear them. That is in itself very powerful. Then in partnership with them and with their permission, assist them in finding their own answers that are already within themselves. I also realized that you just helped me find the answer to my question which was already inside of me! And I already knew it all along. I have been doing it for many years now, placing attention. Much appreciation!
