The only thing you need to accomplish all your aspirations is this.

Dear Open Heart Project,

This is a time of year when thoughts naturally turn to change. One year (brutal and unprecedented) is coming to a close. The ground has been shaken by illness, political power grabs, and societal reckonings, long overdue. It has been painful, certainly. So much has been shaken up. If you’ve ever studied alchemy, you know that the first step in the transformative process (whether transforming base metals into gold or human suffering into liberation) is called volatility. Before anything can change, it must be introduced into a state of volatility. Thanks, 2020. Mission accomplished.

What change do you want to see, create, offer, stand for? Whatever it is, I hope you will honor your deepest longings. In my experience, there is one quality you will need to base all your efforts upon. With it, you can make amazing progress. Without it, and I speak from personal experience, a sisyphusian journey awaits. Check this week’s video to learn more.

And please let me hear your thoughts! I always want to hear from you.

Love, Susan

p.s. If you’re looking for a retreat experience at home, please join me for Fearlessly Creative:  A 2-day Online Meditation and Writing Retreat on December 12th and 13th here. We will spend all day Saturday and half a day Sunday practicing meditation and giving ourselves lots of time to write. It turns out that writing, meditation, and community work really well together. Hope to see you there.

This was so interesting and helpful Susan, thank you. I’ve been looking a lot at connecting to and trusting my own wants and knowing, rather than always looking outside of myself. I’ve been grappling with trusting myself in my uncertainty around being ‘right’ so this really helps me to understand what it might be to trust myself. I so often don’t know what is ‘right’, but I can trust my ability to be with myself. Thank you.

The journey you describe is the most important journey there is, IMHO. And I share the trust you have in yourself. I have no doubt that you know how to navigate it all. xo S

What a great reminder of steadiness in a tilt-a-whirl world. What came over me (literally like a wave) during the meditation was to trust my body – yes, my old lady body. I was fussily going through the points of “good” sitting posture (sitz bones, check; crown up, check; chin tucked, check, etc.) when I realized that I know what to do, how to be here. I could trust my body to sit as flexibly and erect as a lily, without the fussiness. It made all the difference. Thank you, Susan – and a belated wish for a happy birthday and a year of peace.

Hello Susan, My Heart / Soul / Beliefs, have been under an Increadable amount of “Cruel, (real,&, Percieved), Attack, which causes my Life Balance to seem like it’s on a Rooler Coaster! I’ve been very blessed to have my Life’s Journey brought me to Recovery some time ago, &, Recovery has Brought me to an even broughter Practice, ( Meditation / Mindfulness), This Practice, with Mento rs has Given me Insight, / Awarness, Most Importantly “TOOLS” with which I can, &, have Paused to take an Honest Look at my Roll in all that is Happening Around me…… How can I effect Change in Situations, or is it a case of Change in Me! To be able to Pause / Contimplate, and offten “See The Path” which leads me to the Next Right Action ! Having Like Minded People as Mentors, and Guides in this Practice, during these Times, is a Gift not to be taken lightly by Me. Peace be with You…….

I am so sorry to hear you are “under attack.” I know you have the tools you need, because you have cultivated them. That said, it is really good to hear that you have support–friends, fellow travelers, and so on. Sending deepest wishes for your ease. With love, Susan

wow wow wow – I absolutely love this. what a lovely experience for you (the 2nd part of your story, not the first!) But then, as soon as I write that, I realize: but without the first part, there would BE no second!!!! Hence, it seems that perhaps the ‘asshole’ wasn’t (only) an asshole, but also a conduit. May I remember this in all future asshole encounters!!!

Haha! Great points! And may all future asshole encounters resolve with ease. So much love, Susan

    Hi Susan,
Thank you so much for your generosity, you give us examples of your everyday experiences and transform them to a teaching, that is very intersting, very earthy and very practical and useful for me and I think all of us.
In my opinion these teachings must be used in everyday life otherwise they are only remain as beautiful or philosophical pharases that we can enjoy them. But you have the art of using them in everyday life situations and that isvery valuable.
    Thank you so much,
    Bow,
    Farid.

Farid, thank you so much for taking the time to leave this generous message. It is so appreciated. And I agree wholeheartedly–the teachings are meant to be used, not just appreciated for their (extraordinary) beauty. Wishing you all the blessings of the journey. With love, Susan
