Meditation practice begins at 13:05
Hello, wonderful Open Heart Project.
Before today’s sit, I continue sharing key points from my new book, Inexplicable Magic: Meditation for Mystics. It describes 7 principles of spiritual practice. The first point was We Engage in Daily Ritual. The second was We Live as Mystics (Hiding in Plain Sight). The third was The Personal Is Not an Obstacle. It Is the Way. And today, I share some thoughts on the fourth point, a subject most of us would rather avoid: heartbreak.
As our meditation practice deepens, something surprising often happens. We become more moved by life, not less. We notice more. We feel more. And sooner or later, we come face to face with the vulnerability of being human.
This is not a mistake in the practice. It is part of the path.
In the Open Heart Project, we do not regard heartbreak as a problem to solve or an interruption to spiritual life. We view it as a source of courage. When we are willing to feel what we feel, without immediately distracting ourselves or explaining it away, we become more present, more compassionate, and more able to be of benefit to others.
Please have a listen and let me know what you think.
Susan
Curious about the book? I’m hosting a free info session to share the less conventional wisdom of spiritual practice through the seven principles outlined in my new book. I’d love to see you there. Join the discussion on June 11th at 7pm et here.
