To what or whom are you unquestionably devoted? How does your devotion express itself?

I’m unquestionably devoted to my 3 grandsons…Ezra (11 years, lives in Philly), Oliver (8 1/2, brother of Ezra lives in Philly), Sam (8 1/2, lives in Columbus, OH). They are the reason I won’t be at our summation gathering. I’ll be traveling with Sam to Philly. This is the 3rd year that I’ve fostered this gathering “Camp Mamou”. (Mamou is the name of one of my grandmothers. I never knew my grandparents who died before I was born; I didn’t know my cousins who were much older than me.)
I always felt a hole in my childhood experience from not having those relationships. Therefore, I feel such a dedication/devotion, a calling to help foster their relationships with each other (& with me)…to foster a special love. And, I think the foundation has been set. It brings me such joy.

PS I will miss tomorrow’s celebration. Please mail me a piece of the cake. Love to all.

PSS I feel such deep gratitude, Susan & Crystal, for your time and heartfelt wisdom reflected in the book and the program. Though the book is slim, its words are deep and filled with magic. I look forward to re-reading and to re-reading and living it and pondering it.

My devotion is to that other, all-encompassing place or presence which I sometimes sense, particularly when I am open to the natural world, love, gratitude, creative flow. What helps to keep me open are various of Buddhism’s lists, particularly the 5 Remembrances and the 4 Reminders; Stephen Mitchell’s translation of Tao Te Ching; reading or listening to my hero, Manchán Magan; bees, birds, the ocean, my children and grandchildren, my cats – all cats – and the little voice that guides my art-making and my good choices. Remembering to pause and attempting to listen are my primary expressions of devotion.
