Do Buddhists pray?
May 4, 2026 | 3 CommentsAudio only version here.
Meditation practice begins at 9:01.
Hello, wonderful Open Heart Project meditator. We moved to a new house recently and the effort to make a relationship to a new space has been front of mind. How do you connect with unseen energies? How do you fill a space with unseen goodness? Alleviate unseen obstacles?
When an Open Heart Project sangha member asked if Buddhists pray, I wondered if that was what I was doing in my efforts to connect. Please watch this video for more!
Your thoughts and reactions are always appreciated, please let me know any and all.
With love,
Susan
PS: I made a lengthier podcast episode on this topic and you can listen here.

Thank you for welcoming me and we into your new home. There is an elegance in your office that seems to seep into you. You shared softness and tenderness that I haven’t experienced and I have been with you for years and years.
So thank you, thank you and thank you with gratitude.
I can speak to this! Hello Susan and everyone and thank you for this talk and congratulations on your new digs! I am in recovery in a 12 step program and I consider myself a Buddhist. I struggled with the prayer and god aspect of my program early on, as prayer is a big part of the deal. I realized, eventually, that I can pray to wisdom and compassion, or the interconnected reality of all things, because I know my mind.
Something in my inner wisdom allows me to see a loving god entity, to put a face or a mask on the larger wisdom of the universe.
So love your Buddhist enneagram book.
