Staying Close to What Supports You

Hello, wonderful Open Heart Project.
I’ve been reflecting on how easily meditation practice can fade into the background when life gets busy or uncertain. Not because it doesn’t matter, but because the very moments when we need it most are often the moments when it’s hardest to remember to turn toward it.
What I keep coming back to is this: practice doesn’t need to be perfect or heroic. It needs to be close. Something we can return to again and again—simple, human, and supportive. When practice feels accessible rather than demanding, it has a way of staying with us.In today’s reflection, I share a few thoughts on how to relate to practice in a way that’s sustainable over time—how to let it become a steady companion rather than another obligation.
I hope you’ll take a few minutes to listen and see what feels useful.
For many people, one of the most reliable supports is practicing in community. Sitting with others, hearing familiar teachings, and knowing there’s a shared commitment can make it much easier to keep showing up. If that sounds helpful, the Open Heart Project Sangha is an online meditation community where we practice together and support one another in bringing meditation into everyday life.
However you’re practicing right now, I’m glad you’re here. Please be kind with yourself, and keep returning in whatever way you can.
With love,
Susan

Excellent practice thank you! Very clear and helpful talk about the three jewels.
So glad it was useful, Anne. <3 S
I have been with you every step of the way, all books, blogs, etc., etc, etc. I will confess that as an old person I am quite taken by you and quite intimidated. This blog has prompted me to break my silence. Your wisdom and humility as part of a confused presentation opened something up that has surprised me. Of course I haven’t a clue about what I mean but there was mystery behind your words that was thrilling and scary, and very wise.
Thank you, Susan
Thanks, Tom! Glad we are practicing together. May the mystery thrive. S
Thank you, Susan! Your videos every week have helped me a lot.
Thank you Susan!
This was such a great description on how the mind works, “absorbing” what is dropped on the mind surface. Very helpful, thank you. 🙏♥️
