How to keep difficult feelings from taking over

Audio-only version is here.
Meditation practice begins at 14:32.

Hello, Open Heart Project. I hope you are well and finding ways to be joyful and kind (to yourself, others, the planet).

This video suggests three ways we can work with so-called negative emotions. There are so many all over the place! It can be very difficult to figure out how to work with rage, fear, and, perhaps most dangerous, apathy. I hope you find something useful in the thoughts I share. It is very important to find ways to work with your mind so please use the 10-minute meditation as you wish.

With love,
Susan

“Feel the feeling, but drop the story.” Yes exactly.

Of all the wisdom I have absorbed from your talks over the years, Susan, this is the idea I turn to the most, and the one I share with others most often.

But I love all three ways of looking at strong emotions that you share here. There are some occasions when it truly is helpful to pacify, distract, tell yourself you will come back to this feeling. And I so love the idea of strong emotions as a gateway to compassion, to someday perhaps benefit others. But the third way is the most powerful.

    Oh, this is so useful.

Everything about my practice, including the parts I’ve learned from you, are so very, very useful in my life.

Every day, I am grateful to have found Buddhism, , And to have found OHP.

Thank you for being you, Susan.
