Surgery this morning
May 15, 2011 | 34 Comments8a EST. Having my gallbladder removed for reasons I can explain later. In fact, getting to the point of having this prosaic medical procedure (the most common surgical procedure in the US, I’m told) has been anything but prosaic and might actually make a decent story. (Which I suppose is true for everyone who has it.)
For reasons relating to this story but that will go unmentioned for now, the surgery has to be open, i.e. not laparascopic. Meaning incisions and the like. General anesthesia. Several hours (or more, I’ve been warned terrifyingly) on the table.
A complex procedure.
I look forward to awakening with further Β tales from the bardo.
Well, hell, at this point I’m just looking forward to awakening. Like, completely. Hey! That might not be so bad.
Much love to you who partake of this blog and The Open Heart Project and wishing you all the joys of awakenment.

Surgery is frightening when it’s you. But take heart in all of those who have gone on to a healthy recovery from this kind of surgery. People like me. Take the time you need to recover.
I do take heart in this. So grateful for the reminder, Marian. Thank you!
I wish you the best, and hope you recover quickly!
Thanks, Kyle!
Wishing for you a very safe surgery and a speedy recovering. Much love!
Thanks, Stephanie!
It’s almost 3 hours after your surgery, as I’m on Pacific Time, so I’m hoping that all went well and you have a speedy and uneventful recovery! (Well, uneventful except for it’s speed.)
We’ll be here when you’re back.
I am well and and am overjoyed to be back in touch with you beloved readers and friends. xoxox S
Thoughts and prayers are on their way. Hope it goes well!
Thanks, Joan!
I hope your surgery goes well as I’m sure it will. Happy awakening!
It did! And THRILLED to be awake!!
Thinking of you. May you awaken knowing that you are already in the process of recovery. Wishing you good health.
Thank you so much!
By the time you read your comments you will have woken up π I hope it all went well, that’s quite an invasive surgery. My gallbladder was removed laparoscopically and that still hurt for a while thereafter. I also remember it feeling weird to have an organ removed. That looks like a nice room to recover in. Sending you many good and healing thoughts π
Yes, it’s all done. I’m so relieved. Took 3 hours on the operating table, but it went well!! I was scared it wouldn’t–when I woke up, my first reaction was J O Y!!!
Thanks for the kind thoughts…they mean the world…
Yikes…that room looks so stark. My heart opens just a teeny bit more every day because of you. Be strong. Or weak. Or whatever you need at the moment you need it, and much love back.
Thanks, sweetie. Made much less bleak by the presence of caring friends and hospital folk.
Good vibes on the way – heal well! I had mine out 2 years ago. Life is much better now π
So glad to hear it. And so glad to have mine out! But it was a complicated (open) procedure because of past trauma to the area. But it’s over now!
Keeping you and your caregivers in mind during my meditation.
May you be well….may you be comfortable (or kept comfortable),
May your caregivers be aware of your needs and provide for you.
May you heal without delay….
May you be well.
thank you, thank you, thank you. I am well!
Hope you are feeling better..had the same open procedure over 20 years ago and 90+ stones later…new to your blog and just started reading one of your books…best medicine for me at this time in my life. You put into words what I am feeling but find so hard to express like your post of compassion and enemies. peace & namaste-denita
Such a relief to read your smiling voice and know you’re on the other side of the surgery. Take good care of yourself, we love you!
Wishing you a good healing, so glad it went well!
So good to know that you are well! Sending you my thoughts for a quick and painless recovery.
Day after can be rough but a lot of the fear has left…. not to mention some of the anesthetic. Man (woman) can operate and medicate, but only nature can heal…. and it will. Be well.
so glad all is well … they have made many improvements in the anesthesia, that is what I have had trouble with … took forever to get rid of that feeling of not ‘being in touch’
Glad you are out the other side of the operation, and sounding good. To be said in a languid drawl: Take it easy, but take it.
Thanks for being you, and do take care of yourself as you are precious to us all.
I have recently been introduced to your site and you give your chosen topics such wonderful insight and wisdom.
I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery, sending love and light your way.
Read through the comments. So glad you came through OK, and sending thoughts of healing and recovery your way. Namaste.
Warm wishes for a safe surgery and healthy recovery, Susan. And thank you for your blog posts, I love reading them. π
I’m so glad this is behind you and that you are well.
I thought of you this morning in meditation- I was looking for a place to focus compassion- but didn’t know you were in surgery. I’m so glad you woke up happy and safe. π
