Full Fathom Five: The Buddha Families & Creative Expression

with Kevin Townley
Saturday, November 14
11am–3pm ET

What kind of artist are you, and what does the way you make things say about how you see the world?

In Vajrayana Buddhism, the Five Buddha Families describe five patterns of human experience: five ways of seeing, sensing, responding, and making sense of the world. Each has its own wisdom, its own blind spots, and its own creative potential.

In this workshop, Kevin Townley discusses all of them as a map of creative expression.

Through meditation, conversation, and making, we’ll look at how each of us naturally creates. What do you reach for? What do you avoid? Where do you get stuck? What changes when you stop forcing yourself to create a certain way? You won’t leave as a different kind of artist. You’ll know more about the one you already are.

You can write, paint, dance, compose, bake, make collages… and it’s okay if you haven’t made anything in years. During the workshop you’ll make something of your own in any medium you like, with time to experiment and reflect. No artistic experience is needed, whether you’re a working artist, creatively blocked, or someone who has never thought of yourself as “creative.”

What we’ll cover:
* The Five Buddha Families and the wisdom energies they represent
* How those energies show up in creative work
* Your creative strengths, habits, and blind spots
* Using meditation to change how you approach making
