Do.
May 9, 2012 | 17 CommentsIn the last newsletter, I offered a review of some basic “don’ts.” Today is part 2: the “dos.” I know that some of you may have heard these things before, but, really, we can’t hear such things too many times.
Without further ado, please do:
- Understand what is meant by “placement of attention on breath”
- Become a bit bored
- Stick with the technique
- Become enlightened
The video above explains it all!

so glad to hear it.
Thank you for making your material available in multiple forms! The audio was a real plus today, since my connection slowed to a crawl and I could not get the video to run.
The demonstration from the left knew to the right earlobe, etc., was so clear! Thank you!
glad! you are so welcome.
Thank you Susan, very helpful information. One question.. is it ever appropriate to mentally count the breaths to keep attention on the breath? Sometimes counting helps to keep me focused but don’t want to do this if it is not the proper technique.
Hi Karen. Yes, sometimes counting breaths can be a great way of settling into the practice. Then, when you feel you are somewhat settled, you can let go and use the breath as the object of attention. Or not. Use your best judgment about what is best in a particular practice session, but when in doubt, stick to the basic technique. xo S

Hi Susan,
I came to your project based on Seth’s recommendation. Tried seeing this video but it stops at 2:34 and refuses to play further. Am using Safari. Any clue why this could be happening ?
Thanks and look forward to your newsletters.
Hi again,
I tried reopening the browser and it worked this time. Thanks and I look forward to getting started.
Excellent!
