SUMMARY:The 4th Yana: A webinar with Crystal Gandrud
DESCRIPTION:Practice and the Urgency of Art\nMay 13th at 7pm et \nReserve your space here \nAfter twenty-five years of Tibetan Buddhist practice\, Crystal Gandrud has become increasingly interested in what emerges from contemplation of the three yanas\, or vehicles\, of Buddhadharma: creativity itself. \nOver the past several years\, Crystal has been developing an idea that has become central to her work and teaching: that the ultimate flower of meditation is creative power. \n“The path of meditation is creative action. You are a creative being discovering itself. In discovering yourself\, you are discovering the world. The world is creative power.” \nIn recent public talks and conversations\, she has begun referring to this unfolding as the “fourth yana” or “Artyana”: the creative flowering that arises through sustained engagement with practice\, perception\, imagination\, humor\, and lived experience. \nThis free webinar will explore what arises for human beings when we practice the three yanas\, even a little bit\, and how art may function as both practice and fruition. \nThis conversation is open to artists\, secret artists\, the creatively curious\, and non-artists alike. No meditation background or artistic identity is required. Anyone interested in creativity\, consciousness\, contemplative practice\, or the conditions of the present moment is welcome. \nTopics will include: \n\nThe relationship between the three yanas and the “fourth yana”\nCreativity as an extension of contemplative practice\nWhy creative action matters now\nThe role of imagination\, humor\, and artistic inquiry\nArt as both process and fruition\nWhat becomes possible when practice becomes lived expression\n\nWebinar Details\nDate: Wednesday\, May 13Time: 7:00 PM Eastern TimeCost: FreeHosted by: Crystal Gandrud \nReserve Your Seat Here

SUMMARY:Free Info Session about the Sunday Sanity Summit
DESCRIPTION:Register here for the free 60-minute info session.\nStart your week with sanity\, strength\, and support\nJuly 1\n7pm – 8pm ET\nAbout a month ago\, I started something small—just a gentle experiment\, really. It was a response to the ache and intensity of simply being human right now. I called it the Sunday Sanity Summit\, and the idea was simple: let’s gather\, reflect\, and support each other through it all. \nWhat began as a trial has quietly grown into something much more—a space of real connection and shared humanity. People have shown up so beautifully. Here are few reflections that have touched me: \n(The Summit) allows me to get to know people in a meaningful way which creates a stronger sense of community… There are no strangers—the details are different\, but we share fears\, worries\, hopes\, and dreams. – Beth \nIt’s not only a grounding practice but a way to feel less alone… It has become a weekly touchstone. – Gail \nToday was my first time attending\, and I already want to keep going. I’d be grateful to be part of the group for as long as it continues. – Sandra \nIf you want to see what this is all about\, please come to a free info session where I will go into depth about what makes this weekly gathering so powerful \nPlease register here. \nIf you can’t attend live\, you’ll receive a link to the recording. \nI hope to see you there.

SUMMARY:Free Info Session about an upcoming course: Inexplicable Magic
DESCRIPTION:Register here for the free 60-minute info session.\nHow to bring more sanity to the world\nApril 15\n6pm – 7pm ET\nAt this time of uncertainty\, it can be difficult to imagine what you or I could do to stem the tide of pain and anger. While it’s true that we can’t mandate a positive direction for the events of the world\, we can mandate a positive direction for our world. We can settle our minds. We can order our environment. We can express care for those we encounter; for our loved ones\, friends\, neighbors\, communities. We can actually–slowly\, slowly–do our part to shift the balance away from insanity and cruelty to sanity and decency.  \nIt seems that it begins by reestablishing agency within our own minds and hearts. Rather than having our attention yanked hither and yon by social media\, news apps\, and the constant invitation to freak out\, we can decide when and what to pay attention to. In this way\, our actions to create real change come from a place of strength rather than desperation. \nIf this sounds like some kind of magic\, that is because it is. The magic of remaining awake. Of continuing to care. Of continuing to move forward against very strong currents of hatred and confusion. It begins with\, you guessed it\, a strong meditation practice.  \nDon’t take my word for anything I just said. Please come to a free info session where I will make seven suggestions for establishing and strengthening your world so that it shines a bright light into the world–which needs your light now\, more than ever. I’ll also share details of my upcoming four-week course by the same name.  \nPlease register here. \nIf you can’t attend live\, you’ll receive a link to the recording. \nThose who attend live will also have a chance to sign up for a post-info session one-to-one Zoom conversation with me to talk further about Inexplicable Magic.\n(10 15-minute slots will be available from April 17-21).  \nI hope to see you there.

SUMMARY:Free Info Session to Hear More about Susan's New Book\, Inexplicable Joy
DESCRIPTION:Register here for the free 90-minute info session.\nRight now countless humans are reciting the Heart Sutra—no matter when “right now” happens to be. This ancient\, essential Buddhist text carries with it a mystery of origin and a myriad of versions for consideration. The longest is 100\,000 lines. The version contemplated in Inexplicable Joy is 43 lines. The ultimate is no lines at all. Just one syllable: AH. \nThe Heart Sutra is multi-layered\, sacred\, and sometimes impenetrable. It also lays out the path to full enlightenment.  \nIn Inexplicable Joy\, I share my very personal understanding of this formidable text and discuss the inner meaning and timeless qualities of the Heart Sutra. \nYou are warmly invited to explore Inexplicable Joy: On the Heart Sutra\, with me on Feb 12 at a free 90-minute info session. This book is the first in a new series being published by Lionheart Press called Buddhism Beyond Belief. \nWe will discuss how this short book is organized to bring The Heart Sutra into your life—while keeping all of its mysteries intact. \nRegister for the free info session on February 12th at 6pm here.\n\nA link to a recording will be sent to all who register\, so don’t worry if you can’t attend live. \nHope to see you there!

SUMMARY:Look\, Look\, Look\, Look\, Look Again: Buddhist Wisdom Reflected in 26 Artists
DESCRIPTION:Free webinar to talk with author and teacher Kevin Townley about the Five Buddha Wisdoms. Register here.\nOne of the best things about the Open Heart Project Sangha is KEVIN TOWNLEY. If you’ve ever heard him teach\, you know exactly why I say that. His approach to the dharma is completely unique while being fully rooted in tradition. He illustrates deeply nuanced teachings in a fully relatable way–while being hilarious. And charming. And extremely suave.  \nI’m delighted to invite you to a free webinar with him to discuss the Five Buddha Wisdoms\, also the topic of his recent book\, Look\, Look\, Look\, Look\, Look Again: Buddhist Wisdom Reflected in 26 Artists. These teachings are central in many schools of Tibetan Buddhism. They describe the five ways wisdom arises in each of us.  \nThe Open Heart Project’s Lionheart Press is the publisher of this book and I’ve never been more proud of any project I’ve been involved in. (Even though I just hung around while Kevin and editrix extraordinaire Crystal Gandrud did all the work.) \nCheck out this sampling of Amazon reviews: \nI’m completely awed and enchanted by this fabulous book! It’s like an all night conversation about life and art with a brilliant funny friend. Kevin’s ability to draw from a diverse range of cultural references is catnip for a liberal arts nerd like myself. Plus I learned about an amazing group of female identified artists who were mostly unknown to me. What a treat! Nutritious and delicious! \nI had read the electronic version of this book\, but after receiving the print version\, I am glad that I ordered it. There is much to study\, much to savor and much to simply be wowed over. Kevin Townley’s erudite and amazingly well-researched text is fast-paced\, contemporary and witty\, fleshing out individual artists’ works with commentary and a few interviews. His thorough understanding of the five wisdom energies (or Buddha families) allows a unique lens through which the reader can appreciate both the works and the teachings more fully. The art is beautifully presented\, with a both a detail and the whole piece in each chapter. While it would make a wonderful text for a college course in art appreciation\, it is also accessible and entertaining for the casual reader. When a book opens windows and doors and encourages one to “Look\, Look\, Look\, Look\, Look Again\,” the invitation cannot be refused. The reader need not be an art savant or a Buddhist (or even know much about Buddhism) to derive deep enjoyment from this truly unique work. Well done. \nKevin’s brilliant sense of humor is on display as he takes the reader on a wild journey through an intersected corridor of art\, art history\, and Buddhist wisdom told while exploring the Five Buddha Families / Wisdom Energies as they manifest through a fantastic selection of female artists. Kevin makes art\, meditation\, and the dharma feel very near and accessible to all. \nThe people have spoken. They love you\, Kevin. \nPlease join us on May 9 at 7p ET for a free webinar with Kevin. He’ll talk about each of the wisdoms and there will be time for conversation. \nRegister here. \nIf you haven’t read his book\, please do. You can find it here. You’re welcome. \n  \nA B O U T   K E V I N: \nKevin Townley is a writer/performer\, and has been studying Buddhism since 2010. He currently practices with the Sokuko-Ji Zen community under the guidance of Kyoun Sokuzan. Kevin completed the Interdependence Project’s teacher training program in 2012. He is passionate about exploring the interplay of meditation and art-making while encouraging others to bring their own innate humor and insight to their meditation practice. His first book Look\, Look\, Look\, Look\, Look Again: Buddhist Wisdom Reflected in 26 Artists was published by Lionheart Press.

SUMMARY:Authentic Presence: Reawakening Spiritual Confidence In-Person Retreat
DESCRIPTION:A two-week meditation retreat offered in partnership with The Wisdom Seat\, the Open Heart Project\, and Drala Mountain Center\nSusan Piver\, joined by Michael Carroll and Loden Nyima\, will guide participants during this special retreat.\nOur modern life presents us with a profound spiritual paradox: while we build remarkable technology\, impressive resources\, and growing prosperity\, we also encounter a world filled with numbing devices\, growing anxiety and distressing poverty. We build fresh\, inspiring human connections around the world via social media\, yet we are haunted by incessant digital reminders to become a better version of ourselves — faster\, smarter\, richer\, better looking\, and more productive. We humans are building a miraculous world\, yet\, somehow\, we find our confusion\, fear and anxiety blossoming as well. \nExploring such a paradox need not be so distressing\, however. In fact\, maybe such circumstances are inviting us to reawaken our spiritual confidence. Drawing on the profound Mahayana tradition of the Bodhisattva\, this retreat will explore such questions as: \n\nHow can formless meditation help us rediscover our natural confidence?\nHow can we skillfully offer compassion\, wisdom\, and dignity to a world in need of our help?\nWhy is the “wisdom of a broken heart” so central to the practice of meditation?\nIs meditation a “socially responsible gesture”? and if so\, why?\nWhat is “threefold boredom” and how can it help tame modern-day speed and aggression?\n\nIn this two-week retreat\, we will practice formless meditation intensively\, exploring techniques passed down through Mahayana Buddhism and the teachings of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche.\nRefuge and Bodhisattva Vows will be offered. \nParticipants can expect a deep\, contemplative environment\, focused primarily on six to eight hours of daily meditation practice with supportive talks and interviews. There will also be time for rest and connecting with nature. \nMore details and registration information here.

SUMMARY:How mindfulness can help your coaching clients create change
DESCRIPTION:Don’t you just love those sessions with clients when you’re totally on the same page\, helping to connect their goals with their deepest values\, and breaking down the barriers that have prevented them from bringing lasting\, positive change into their lives? \nSessions that are so full of connection\, hope\, and direction. \nSo full of momentum.\n \nAnd yet\, so often that momentum dissolves the moment your client walks out the door or hangs up the call. \nWhen it comes down to it\, our clients live most of their lives away from us. Even if we are able to speak with them an hour a week\, they spend most of their time out there in the world\, where it can be difficult to recall those hopeful\, connected moments of your sessions together. \nWhat if there were a way to help our clients maintain that momentum and create lasting change? A way to bring such energy beyond the walls of your conversations and into the daily actions they take. \nI used to feel so frustrated for my nutrition therapy clients who arrived at one session feeling badly about failing to take the steps we agreed on at our last session. For so long\, I wondered what would help them bring the energy and momentum of our sessions into the rest of their lives. \nAnd after years of searching in my professional (and private) life\, I finally found the secret ingredient. \nThe short answer is mindfulness\, but there’s so much more to it than that. \nI’d love to share this secret ingredient with you during a free webinar on Tuesday\, September 12th at noon eastern time. \nPlease join me for this webinar\, How mindfulness can help your coaching clients create lasting change to help your clients go from just aspiring to create change to truly executing. \nSign up here to be added to our list. \n\nCan’t make the training time? Enter your email address and we’ll send you a 48 hour replay link\, however\, you will miss out on being able to ask questions and receive any resources shared on the day of the webinar\, so we encourage you to attend live if you can.\n \nTerms of Use/Privacy Policy

SUMMARY:Mommy Sangha Anniversary:A Free Call to celebrate women!
DESCRIPTION:HAPPY FIRST ANNIVERSARY!\n  \nIt’s been one year since we launched the Mommy Sangha. We have gathered such a wonderful international community of mothers — stepmothers\, grandmothers\, adoptive mothers\, foster mothers\, mothers of newborns\, infants\, toddlers\, kids and teens — and I have loved meeting with the Mommy Sangha each week to practice together and support one another. The wisdom inherent in a group of women who value compassion\, wakefulness\, and community is deep and boundless. \nPlease join me for a free 45-minute call to celebrate the Mommy Sangha’s one year anniversary at 2:30p.m. EST on March 8th. I can think of no better day to celebrate mothers’ (all mothers’) inherent badassery and to discuss how to “show up” for ourselves and one another. \nI so hope you’ll join me. Just register using the form below and we’ll send you details for the call on March 7. And please feel free to forward the link to this page to any moms you think might be interested in the call! If you can’t make it live\, just register and you’ll still get a link to the recording. \nWith love\,\nJenna\n \nPS. Mommy Sangha members will automatically receive a link to join this call. There is no need to register. \nLoading… \nHaving trouble entering your email? Please email Michele and she’ll add you to the list.

SUMMARY:Enter 2017 with peace and power
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \nGoodbye 2016. Hello 2017. \nFor many of us\, 2016 has been a heartbreaking year. We have seen some of our most cherished values trampled upon by elections in the US and elsewhere. It is a time for warriors of good hearts and minds to abandon methods that increase polarization and hostility. It is also time to fight—hard. \nWhile there is a lot of confusion\, there is also a lot of commitment. There are countless people just like you who are willing to take a stand for values of compassion\, justice\, and interdependence. \nNow what? \nThe most important question is this: How do we fight without aggression? \nAs 2016 fades and 2017 comes into focus\, please join Buddhist teachers Ethan Nichtern and Susan Piver for a gathering of the goodness clan. Together\, we will contemplate answers to this question. \nEthan and Susan will discuss the notion of fighting without aggression and lead a meditation for peace and strength. This gathering is free. A donation to the ACLU is suggested. \nOFFER A DONATION HERE. 100% of PROCEEDS WILL GO TO THE ACLU. \nLoading… \nHaving trouble submitting via the form? Please email Michele and she’ll add you to the list. \nThis event will be recorded. Sign-up via the form above\, to receive the recording if you can’t join us live.

SUMMARY:Loving Kindness meditation for The United States of America
DESCRIPTION:It has been a crazy election season here in the United States and we know that people all over the world have been feeling it too. No matter what “side” you are on\, there has been so much chaos\, vitriol\, and aggression. \nOn November 9\, it will be time to move forward.\nCan we can find a way to be on the same side\, including everything we agree and disagree on? This may seem impossible. Maybe it is. But with the practice of Loving Kindness meditation\, we can “make the impossible possible.”* \nPlease join Lodro Rinzler and myself on November 9 at noon EST for a brief but heartfelt Loving Kindness meditation for America.\nWhether you are overjoyed or outraged by the result\, we can still offer our best to each other. \nxo Susan \nPS The event will be recorded and shared with all who sign up. \nEnter your email address below to receive the link.\nLoading…\nHaving trouble submitting via the form? SUMMARY:Meditation as a Path to Joy
DESCRIPTION:When I started the Open Heart Project in 2011\, the mindfulness craze had just begun. Thank goodness! Without it\, I don’t think my invitation to learn meditation would have garnered much support. That said\, meditation is not a way to hack into greater productivity. Nor is it a way to lose weight or become a better golfer. It is a way to see clearly. It is a path to joy. It is about helping others and bringing more sanity to this world. \nOn July 26\, I’ll be on Google Hangouts for a free one-hour conversation open to anyone who would like to learn more about meditation as a spiritual path rather than a life-hack. I’ll share the 3 steps you can take to keep your practice firmly rooted in the spiritual (rather than self-improvement) without adopting a new religion. \nI believe so strongly in mindfulness as a path (rather than a mere technique)\, that I want to tell you at the end of the webinar about two programs within the Open Heart Project. First is our Sangha (Sanksrit for community). The Sangha is a way to work together more closely.  Also\, I’m launching our first-ever meditation instructor certification program at the end of September. This nine week course is to teach others how to teach meditation responsibly. \nAt the end of the hangout\, I’ll stick around to answer questions about these programs for those who may be interested. \nI hope you will join me.  Sign up for this FREE special event by clicking here \nLove\, \nSusan

SUMMARY:Meditation for Moms
DESCRIPTION:New moms\, there is still a way for you to include meditation in your life!\nPre-baby\, it was hard enough to get to the meditation cushion. Now\, when your priorities have shifted to the care and feeding of your child (or children)\, those few discretionary moments may seem to be gone forever. They aren’t! All that is needed is a little support. \n\n \nPlease join Open Heart Project Meditation Guide\, writer\, nutrition therapist\, and new mom Jenna Hollenstein for a free conference call to discuss:\n\n\nThe top 5 benefits of meditation for new mommies;\nThe most common reasons for putting it off; and\,\n5 ways to put it all together without guilt or stress\n\n\nAll of this will be discussed on a special\, moms-only\, free hour-long conference call on June 14 at 3:00 p.m. EDT. \nWe will also share information on our new weekly gathering\, the Mommy Sangha. \nThe call will be recorded and a link sent to all registered participants. To secure your spot\, please register here.\nLoading…\nHaving trouble submitting via the form? Please email Michele and she’ll add you to the list. \nWhat New Moms in the Mommy Sangha are saying:\n\nAs a new mama\, finding the time to practice and having the motivation to do so (in competition with so many other things on my to-do list) is an everyday challenge. I can’t always join the group live\, but the option to watch the recorded videos and add to forum discussion at my own pace has made my stillness practice more practical and\, thus\, easier to do. The added support\, accountability and ideas that come from this gentle community help me evolve into a better parent as my sweet little girl grows. Kelly\, Washington\, D.C. and Paris\, mom to Sage\, age 21 months \nWhat I love about this community is the feeling that we all come from a place of “not knowing” and there is no trying to hide your “stuff” to appear in a certain way. I feel welcome with all my mess. We are all in the same boat…with a longing to give ourselves a bit of space to practice. And it is easier to find the motivation/energy/time for practice when you don’t have to do it alone. Aurelie\, Brussels\, mom to Mila\, age 1 year \nThey say “it takes a village…” and mommy sangha is part of that village. As a new mom\, I was having a difficult time carving out time for my meditation practice. Joining the mommy sangha was a commitment to myself to create the space that I needed to take care of myself. It’s been a great experience connecting with other moms across the developmental span of motherhood (and across the globe!) and learning from everyone’s experience. Alexis\, New York City\, mom to Roberta\, age 11 months \nAbout Jenna Hollenstein\n \nNew mom\, mindfulness teacher\, and Founder and Nutrition Therapist at Eat to Love\, Jenna aims to bring the gentle sanity of Buddhist principles to every aspect of her personal and professional life. She is excited to support Mommy Sangha members to create and sustain a meditation practice that creates awareness\, lovingkindness\, and self-compassion. Her greatest teachers include Susan Piver\, her partner Andrea\, and her son Mimmo.

Here is a way to navigate into the new year with a sense of balance and clarity. \nREGISTER HERE \nTogether with my friend\, writer and Buddhist teacher Lodro Rinzler\, we have invited a collection of accomplished dharma teachers to guide you through the end of one year and into another with mindfulness and awareness\, focused on the six priorities that will benefit you most as you lay the ground for what is to come. \nIn Buddhist thought\, the path to a life of joy is built on taking six actions consistently: Generosity; Discipline; Patience; Exertion; Meditation; and Wisdom. Each day of this program will focus on one of those themes. Two different dharma teachers will guide two different meditations. Sessions will be at 8:00 AM EST and 8:00 PM EST. \nLodro or I will host the morning sessions to give you an overview of that day’s transcendent action and also offer you a contemplation you can hold throughout the day to bring that action into your experience. The evening sessions\, each led by a different brilliant teacher\, will give you even deeper insight into that theme. From Zen to Vipassana to Tibetan and other Buddhist practices\, a variety of lineages are represented. It is so exciting. \nAll sessions will be live streamed and easy to access. Each 30-minute session will begin with an opening talk\, followed by a guided meditation and a brief question and answer period. (You will be able to type your questions into a chat screen.) \nYou are invited to drop into one or all sessions. Each session will be recorded and accessible until the next session begins. Together\, these wonderful teachers will help you enter 2016 with gentleness and fearlessness. \nAll you have to do is register. You will in turn receive a link to our online platform that will work for all sessions. You simply need an internet connection. \nDid we mention it was free?! \nFor the complete schedule click here. \nWe look forward to taking this journey with you! \nLove\, Susan and Lodro \nQuestions?
