SUMMARY:Open Heart Project Retreat
DESCRIPTION:Let’s practice meditation together and recover a sense of balance\, cultivate fearlessness\, sharpen our minds\, soften our hearts\, and rejoice in community.\n  \n\n(Space is limited.) \n\nThis 5-day community retreat is a gathering for the Open Heart Project (and anyone who wants to live a heart-centered life)\, the first-ever in North America. We will practice meditation together\, share our experience\, explore ways of bringing practice into every aspect of our lives\, get to know each other in one of the most beautiful settings imaginable\, and have fun! \nThe whole OHP posse will be in attendance: Susan\, Jenna Hollenstein\, Michele Gare\, and Lisa Fehl. It will be so wonderful to practice together in person. We can’t wait to meet you. \nRetreat schedule \nSeptember 14\nArrival day. Check-in from 2:00 p.m to 5:00 p.m\, dinner at 6:00 pm\, followed by orientation \nSeptember 15-18\n7:00 a.m. Early morning meditation practice and gentle wake-up walk in the mountain air \n8:00 a.m. Breakfast (vegetarian options available at all meals) \n9:00 a.m. Meditation practice\, discussion groups\, contemplative practices\, a talk from Susan \n12:30 p.m. Lunch and break (hike\, rest\, read\, write\, hang out with new friends) \n2:30 p.m. Meditation practice \n4:00 p.m. Tea break \n4:30 p.m. Participant-led group explorations on a variety of topics: learn from each other and share group wisdom \n6:00 p.m. Dinner \n7:30 p.m. Evening event (evening one: a talk and discussion; evening two: movie night!!; evening three: roundtable discussion; evening four: banquet and dance party) \nProgram ends formally on the evening of the 18th. \nSeptember 19\nDeparture day. \nIt all takes place at beautiful Shambhala Mountain Center in the Colorado Rockies\, about two hours north of Denver. For those arriving by plane\, there is a shuttle from the Denver airport to Fort Collins and Shambhala Mountain Center will pick you up from there. \nSMC is a spiritually powerful and healing place. DESCRIPTION:In sessions led by each of the three distinguished faculty members\, you’ll hear inspiring talks\, engage in innovative writing exercises\, explore dynamic meditation practices\, discuss the art and craft of writing\, and have the opportunity to share your work in a nurturing environment that engages and challenges writers of all levels\, from the novice to the advanced. \n\n\nBecause the focus of the summit is on re-connecting with your innate creativity and generating new writing rather than critiquing manuscripts\, you simply begin where you are. This is a fun\, creative\, inspiring week of mindfulness and writing designed to ignite and re-ignite your passion for the ideas within you that are yearning to emerge and connecting with the stories you have to tell. \n\n\n\n\nAlbert Flynn DeSilver\nAlbert Flynn DeSilver is an internationally published poet\, writer\, speaker\, and workshop leader. His latest book is Writing as a Path to Awakening (based on his popular workshops by the same name) and will be released September 1st from Sounds True. Albert served as Marin County\, California’s very first Poet Laureate from 2008-2010. His work has appeared in more than 100 literary journals worldwide including ZYZZYVA\, New American Writing\, Hanging Loose\, Jubilat\, Exquisite Corpse\, Jacket (Australia)\, Poetry Kanto (Japan)\, Van Gogh’s Ear (France)\, and many others. He is also the author of the memoir Beamish Boy\, which Kirkus reviews called “a beautifully written memoir poignant and inspirational. . ..” Albert received a BFA from the University of Colorado and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Albert is also a speaker and trainer who has taught writing workshops at the Esalen Institute\, the Omega Institute\, Spirit Rock Meditation Center\, and literary conferences nationally. He lives in Northern California.orthern California. \n\n\nSusan Piver\nSusan Piver is a Buddhist teacher and the New York Times bestselling author of nine books\, including the award-winning How Not to Be Afraid of Your Own Life and The Wisdom of a Broken Heart. Her latest book is Start Here Now: An Open-Hearted Guide to the Path and Practice of Meditation. \nPiver has been a student of Buddhism since 1995\, graduated from a Buddhist seminary in 2004 and was authorized to teach meditation in the Shambhala Buddhist lineage in 2005. \nShe teaches workshops and speaks all over the world on meditation\, spirituality\, communication styles\, relationships and creativity. She wrote the relationships column for body + soul magazine\, and is a frequent guest on network television\, including the Oprah Winfrey Show\, Today\, and CNN.
